Is this the latest trend in handbag design?

Just in the last week I have noticed an increasing number of designers using a classic sewing technique in their handbag designs.  Welcome back whipstitching, the overcast stitch which combines two pieces of fabric together in a visible stitch.  No discreet stitches for us, checkout the designers celebrating the stitch!

  1. Fendi’s Peekaboo whipstitched handbag.  Net-A-Porter says it has been spotted in the arms of Olivia Palermo and Emma Roberts.  Priced at £3000.

  2. Proenza Schouler’s whipstitched shoulder bag is available online at Harvey Nichols. Here this whipstitching is in silver and bronze leather trim to add that accent of metallic which is a strong trend this winter.

3. From Kate Spade we have the Hayes Street woven Isobel bag. It is made from a bright striped fabric and trimmed with black leather and has an optional shoulder strap, available at £358.
