Pretty in pink right now

Up here in the northern hemisphere, I’m seeing more and more pink appearing in the stores for this spring and summer. The good news, is you don’t need to channel your inner Naomi Campell as seen at the Versace S’22 runway show, looking fabulous in a pink trouser suit, to channel your inner fashionista. This much pink up top and below the waistline may not be the preferred choice for everyone. The alternative is to grab a pink bag and still look pretty and on-trend this year. Here’s a quick edit from some cities in Europe where there’s lots of pink bag inspiration for you, with lots more over on insta @thebagwhispers_.

What’s was on instagram for bag fashion in January ’22

What has the start of this year served up in the fashion feeds on Instagram? Has your feed been full of designers getting ready for the new Chinese lunar year? As we’ve stepped into February, Happy Chinese New Year or Gong Xi Fa Cai/Kung Hei Fat Choi for those of you who speak Mandarin and Cantonese. Be warned, this round-up of the bag fashion from the ‘gram spotlights the bags that are free of tiger embellishments. Whilst it was tough to ignore the eyes of the tigers, I still hope you like the edit. If you’re sitting or standing comfortably, my something for the weekend is a quick two minutes’ scroll of the bags rocking some of this year’s spring/summer trends.

SS’22 bag trends for every budget

The spring and summer runways welcomed the return of the shoulder bag. A staple in many wardrobes but it has been overshadowed for a few seasons by its somewhat more boxy and cute cousin, the crossbody bag. Good news, the shoulder bag trends for SS’22 don’t dictate shape or colour as it’s all about matching (not contrasting) your outfit. It’s all very easy, think one colour, minimalist and if you’re missing detail, opt for an accent stitch. You can crack this trend at every budget level. Here are some examples of the shoulder bag trends from under £100 to up to £5000.

Saturday Special! The best bags on insta in November

This weekend is a varied one, with people relaxing from Thanksgiving, sharing time with family for Hanukkah, on a beach in the southern hemisphere (very jealous) or busy shopping, enjoying the Black Friday and Cyber weekend discounts! In and amongst all these distractions, the Fairy Bagwhisphers has been down to instagram on your behalf and kept a note of some standout bags. And to her surprise a bag trend was dominant, the curved bottom bags!

Hands up for a preview of the SS’22 designer bag trends

I’m not a fan of sharing an edit of next season’s trends too early; it can be frustrating waiting for new collections to come in or having to preorder without even seeing the bag IRL. But let’s break with tradition because November is a mix of sale events; from Singles’ Day, Black Friday to Cyber Monday. Between now and end of November, plenty of fashion stores will be offering great discounts. And my top tip for sale shopping is to research the future trends, because sometimes you can get a bag that rocks a key shape and colour of the next season and you’ll be able sashay into spring or summer having saved some well-earned cash. So, with a week to go before some big discounts are due to appear, here’s the rundown of the SS’22 bag trends as set by the top fashion designers.

AW’21 bag trends – the shortlist

It was another digital fashion launch, the AW’21 runways were virtual. And with the lockdowns the impact on creativity could have left us with many reinterpretations of Bridgerton’s Regency romantic outfits, which seemed to be the only fashion being talked about at the start of 2021! However, the designers in New York, Milan, London and Paris treated us to textures galore, from chunky knits a la Chloé, to figure hugging sheer dresses and body suits, thank you Tom Ford! But what about the bags?

The best birthday gift bag!

And I don’t mean the paper ones with ribbon handles used as alternative wrapping or an elegant way to transport a gift. I’m talking about being confident enough to buy a friend or loved on a new bag all wrapped up as the gift! I’ve heard people shy away from buying someone a bag, with style and shape being so personal or being overwhelmed by the fashion trends of the season. One solution is to wrap up one of the classic designer bag icons. However, if the budget doesn’t allow or isn’t appropriate, here are six bags that just never go out of style, that won’t break the bank and will be coveted by other friends!

Pretty in pastels on insta this month.

It’s not a surprise for fashion in pastels to appear in spring/summer. Last year we saw the resurgence of lilac accessories. Good news, this year, any hue of pastel will be on trend, as long as you co-ordinate with your outfit. And just like Max Mara who showed the leather bag in their SS21 fashion show, pretty does not mean small and discreet – this year any shape will go. Here are my five favourite pastel bags spotted on insta this month. Enjoy the inspiration from April.

Bags of colour for SS’21

This spring and summer welcomes new shades of colour. And the good news doesn’t stop there. There isn’t a dominant colour for the season; there’s a colour for every skin tone (much appreciated from the fair skinned amongst us). The only trend to remember is to match your accessories to your outfit – spring and summer is all about toning. So if you love wearing colour, your bag should rock the hue too. Here are over 10 budget and designer bags of colour that are guaranteed to pop!
