Carnaby Street – to shop or not to shop for handbags?

One of my favourite bands The Jam sang of London’s shopping icon, Carnaby Street… ‘This street is a mirror for our country, reflects the rise and fall of our nation’.  The lyrics note this little street’s hip times of the swinging sixties and its later decline a decade later.  But what does 21st century Carnaby street offer the fashion bag shopper today?

At a quick glance you will be forgiven for thinking this area is a menswear shopping street.  However, look again at this network of small streets and you will find Dahlia, Diesel for women, Replay, Scotch & Soda, Shinola, The Kooples and of course London’s retail icon Liberty.

Here are the bags that I discovered that are bang on trend for winter or are keepers as they are classics and never go out of fashion.

From Dahlia – a small boutique off Carnaby Street offering the straw and wooden bag trend of 2017

Diesel for women – furry bags and jackets are this winter’s trend as are silver/grey accessories

Replay – this bag will brighten up a winter outfit (against a black leather jacket) or rock a summer dress

Scotch & Soda – this winter can’t get enough of metallic and stud finishes

Shinola – the Detroit leather company’s only store in the UK offers classic leather bag shapes

The Kooples – a colour for every outfit that has you covered this winter or next Spring

Liberty of London – handbags galore for winter trends

Carnaby Street is a mix of well know brands and small boutiques.  There are definitely quality handbags to buy, however, you do have to go looking.  Diesel was my surprise having two fabulously on trend winter bags.  And of course, thankfully, Liberty of London, brings the handbag collection of this corner of London to a very respectable total.

When you are next in town, venture past the main shopping stretch of Regent Street with its well know designer handbag stores, as you might be pleasantly surprised to find bags that are just a bit different.

Happy shopping!
