If you’ve had the time to glance over my 3 guides to Autumn/winter ’18 fashion styles and bag shapes, you will know that I’m encouraging, urging or some might say begging you to invest or inject colour into your bag wardrobe. T’is the season to embrace ochres, purple, reds, greens and some shades of blue.
So then why are you reading an article about going back to black? Well, I was out for dinner with friends all confident and in style women, who only wanted to know about the latest black bags for this season.
Despite my insights about the colours that will last more than one season, I faced the arguments that a black bag is always required and ‘my one is looking really tired’, and ‘how do I do I find one that won’t look last season too quickly’ and so on.
I’ve relented and selected the bags to inspire you if, and only if, you need a new black bag. This Sunday Special has trawled Instagram to find the eye catching black bag shapes and styles and they are:
- top handle handbags
- crossbody bags with a thick strap
- for work bags choose a tote with embellishment or tall structured backpack
So, if you’re sitting comfortably…
From Mansur Gavriel, The MG Fringe Bag. You will need to email contact@mansurgavriel.com to be added to the wait list!
From Celine, Le 16 top handle bag. This is the first bag from Celine Paris, available from November 2018 and it is splitting the crowd; primarily as it no longer features the logo. Additionally, the feedback reports it isn’t innovative. I don’t think Celine wanted to position itself as innovative but nod to classic designs.
From Furla, the Fortuna handbag. As with Le 16 from Celine, the lines are a bit softer than previous seasons’ top handle bags.
From Alfie Douglas, a british brand that is very popular in Japan, this is another ideal bag to work for corporate days but with modern styling. The styles will be available online soon.
From Aigner Munich, a modern crossbody bag. Look for styles that are longer in width than height.
From Clare Vivier, Le Big Box bag with tick webbing strap.
From Furla, the Mimi crossbody mag. An ideal bag to accent any leather jacket or skirt.
‘Back to Black’ is when you go back to what’s comfortable and despite the wonderful colours there are to choose from this season, I’ve learnt there is always a need to know what styles are required in black.
Something for the weekend, look out for the top handles with soft lines, wider than tall crossbody bags and work bags with clean lines and same colour embellishment.
