Walk this way! Crossbody bags this way…

Right now, with differing levels of lock down, there’s one thing that we are being asked to do, to keep safe and well, is use our one outdoor visit to go for a walk.  The ideal companion is the crossbody bag for the phone, card wallet, keys and the essential packet of tissues. The crossbody wasn’t due to be a feature this spring and summer, the bag was due to be parked and swapped for the shoulder bag.   Alas, let’s welcome it back and walk this way to find a few budget and designer options!   Here’s your quick guide to the on trend crossbody bags for SS’20 with a few fun options thrown in to swing like you just don’t care!

In a snap

For those of you who love some structure to your bag how about a classic snap frame with a modern twist?  Ideal for when you want to turn up the dial on style for your walk.

Budget buy:  From Zara, the Kisslock crossbody bag in flecked fabric.  Price £39.99.  Also available in a rust brown colour.

Indulgent buy: From Marc Jacobs, this Framed green large pinched leather crossbody bag has a lovely subtle nod to Art Deco styling.  Price £1630.

Keepin’ it casual

If you’re a sporty type or a fan of the street style, why not opt for one of these two neutral options:

Budget buy: From Mango, recently reduced by £5, the Technical Fabric crossbody.  Now priced £15.99.

Indulgent buy: From Plan C at matchesfashion.com, a drawstring leather bag.  Price £465.

Straw poll

You can’t beat a woven bag for a summer vibe.  Being neutral in colour they will go with every outfit and can be work dressed down worn with ‘flip flops’ or dressed up with a wedge heel.

Budget buy: From Marks & Spencer, the straw crossbody bag.  Only £15 – a top bargain!

Indulgent buy: From Salvatore Ferragamo at Saks 5th Avenue, the medium Vara Rainbow crossbody bag.  Price £1636 or $1890.

Camera and action!

Over the last couple of seasons, the camera bag has grown in popularity.  With its boxy shape and wide straps.  Here are two very different options:

Budget buy: Not just a bargain but a vegan bag option.  From Fablou, the Chelsea crossbody bag, priced £60.

Indulgent buy: From Marc Jacobs, the Snapshot camera bag isn’t new.  However, in one of this summer’s key colours, zesty orange, this is sure to be a winner.  Price £300.

Soft Pleats

One of the new bag trends spotted on the catwalks of SS’20 is the soft pleated bag, in a pouch shape.  The designs from Bottega Veneta dominated but for those of us who don’t have a couple of thousands of pounds or dollars, here are a few alternative options:

Budget buy: From Mango, the soft pouch bag has the bonus of a bamboo handle.  Price £23.99.

Indulgetn buy: Offering great value, from Zara, the pleats are fashioned into a soft circular leather bag.  Price £69.99.

Retro vibes

Before signing off, if the above 10 crossbody bags don’t float your boat, try  some 1970’s styling, from old prep school days or instant photo days.

Budget buy: The actual Polaroid box camera bag, designed to carry a Polaroid camera.  Ditch the camera and enjoy the retro styling of this casual bag.  Price £33.99.

Indulgent buy: From the Cambridge Satchel Company, the tiny leather satchel in 3 colours (spice, caramello and nutmeg) is priced £60.

So, it would seem the bag fashion of SS’20 has been interrupted.   Due to our need to get our daily walks in, there’s a need to resurrect the crossbody bag.  I hope these five styles to choose from, with budget and indulgent options have inspired and just for fun, a couple of retro options too.

Get your daily walks in and stay safe during these extraordinary times.  Take care.
