Forever in blue jeans

Whether in fashion or not, there will be a moment in the summer or autumn where you’ll reach for your denim for a casual day or night outfit; either jeans, muscle shirt, cut off shorts or even a denim jacket to keep a cooler night at bay (it doesn’t matter whether the jacket’s in fashion or not, it’s a wardrobe staple!). So how do you style your denim with a bag for your essentials, to keep your look casual and stylish? Here are the shapes and textures to reach for so that your look is complete.

Barrel or bowling

Short shoulder strap bags are ideal for when you don’t have much to carry.  And white bags go hand in hand with denim.  Here are two options; bargain and designer.  On the left from Zara, in leather, the mini bowling bag £69.99.  On the right, from Manu Atelier, the white leather cylinder bag (a popular shape from this brand) is £345.

Natural weave

Warm neutral tones such as tan or olive are gentle accents against blue denim for summer days.  Then add woven straw or rattan and you have a summer classic.  Your bargain and designer options are: on the right, from Mango, the combination rattan shoulder bag for £59.99.  On the left from Wicker Wings the Kuai handbag which comes in lots of colours, is £250.

Extra padding

Contrasting textures also give high impact against a smooth denim long skirt or jeans.  And this year, look to the padded or quilted look.  And you don’t have to look far for your bargain and designer options.  On the left, from Mango, the quilted chain shoulder bag for £49.99 and on the right, from Bottega Veneta, the padded cassette bag (which comes in over 10 colour options) is wallet busting £2090.

Beaded

Beaded bags in summer are the bags that can take you from a lovely day out to an evening seamlessly.  The different texture against denim works and this is a great way to add that pop of colour to your outfit.  The bargain option here is from an established boutique in the UK, Oliver Bonas, the yellow Juliette crossbody bag, at £39.50.  For the designer option, you can still grab a bargain with the Tommy daisy shoulder bag from Staud which is in the sale at matchesfashion.com for £150 (30% off).

More room please

And not forgetting those of you who find it tough to travel light and need a larger bag, this is when you can reach for the hobo bag.  Hobo and denim are an established pairing, so much so many international bag brands out there who keep the hobo in their collection year after year.  Here’s two options that will get you noticed.  On the left: from Macy’s in the USA, by Patricia Nash, Maissana hobo bag which is in the sale for £136.  On the right, from one of the UK’s most well known designers, Paul Smith, the swirl print hobo bag, which is £595.

With such a popular fabric as denim, that is in style every season, searching for a bag to pair with your casual blue jean days I hope is now a bit easier.  Think texture, think bold colour and then all you have to decide upon is size.  Here’s to the forever in blue days!
