A top 10 list of best fashion beach bags for 2020 may seem a bit out of place – as most places are in lock down – the northern hemisphere having to keep away from beaches and the countries in the southern hemisphere are seeing their days and nights get cooler. However, one thing that does unites us is that by the time lock down is eased and we’re all experts at social distancing, we all may get a day or two on a beach somewhere before the year is out! So in times like these, let’s look forward, in fact, to a new day rising, a brand new sky. Here’s to heading to a beach near you soon!
For those who love to go large as they have more essentials than most, here are two bags that you may have spotted elsewhere on this site; from Marks and Spencer, the straw hobo bag for just under £30!
And don’t be shy of white – it was all over the runways for SS’20, models dressed from head to toe in pure brilliant white including their accessories. From Studio Amelia, the 3.3 Messenger bag for AUS$384 (40% off now, was $640).
Off the shoulder!
There’s no point in fighting it; for some there isn’t any other type of bag and that’s the backpack. Here are two very different options. Firstly from the Herschel Supply Co, pretty in pink, is the City Backpack (don’t be fooled by the name). Price is US $41.99. Ideal for those cycling to the beach and as this is canvas, so it can work as a pillow too!
From a less well known brand Olli Ella (two sisters from the UK who now are based in very different but enviable beach destinations, Byron Bay and LA), here’s a weave back pack. The Soukie Backpack is made from sustainably sourced seagrass with leather straps. £59.
When you want more than one of the summer fashion trends featured in your beach bag, choose one of these two colourful options. First up, from Mango, the braided shopper bag is £49, from the Violeta range. This scores on the braided look and the zesty colour way.
Scarves and ropes were big features in the SS’20 fashion shows. And here’s an inspired option. From Zara the handkerchief shoulder bag with its knot detail on the leather strap is just under £50.
Woven bags are always a beach staple. However, if you aren’t carrying a straw bag, the woven style to opt for, to keep your fashionista credentials in tact, is a crochet bag. From USA west coast, the brand Clare V brings us the Sandy tote bag in various colours. Love this green option with knotted strap ends, which retails around £120.
And for those who like to carry their bag in their hand rather than over the shoulder, opt for the crochet shopper bag from Arket, in an even more vibrant and zesty green colour. Price £39.
Love the label
If your budget is a bit more flexible and you want a designer beach bag, there are plenty of straw tote bags to choose from. Here are two that have their names firmly on display. From Stella McCartney, the raffia tote bag has a lovely contrast weave. Price £625.
And last but by no means least, from the French designer Jacquemus, this handmade large straw basket with nubuck finishings and outside pocket (that come in a couple of different colour options, the yellow is featured here) is known as Le Grand Panier Soleil. Price US$498.
Once you’ve worked out what you’re wearing, bikini or swimsuit, you’ll grab the essentials of towel, sunglasses, sunscreen, headphones, book. With these 10 beach bags you can find the fashion trend from this summer to suit your style. Whether you’re into detail with a weave, knots or braids or need more function and need to keep your handsfree and throw over your shoulder(s) these beach bags will have you dreamin’ of beach days.
