This Sunday is a round up of the bags on instagram in the summer month of June (if you’re in the northern hemisphere), however, the month’s round up is a special one; it’s the five bag designers with sustainability at their heart. These designers bring us a full range of bag styles; from totes, handbags to backpacks that can work in all seasons (so something for fashionistas in all parts of the globe). Let’s not waste time and dive into the bag designers who give us lots of eco fashion options.
A familiar face
Stella McCartney has been flying the sustainability flag in the luxury market and in June she met with various influential global leaders at the recent G7 here in England. The Falabella is a vegan bag design that has been with us for a while but let me introduce you to the Maxi Falabella, bigger and check out this bold colour! The lining is sourced from water bottles! Sustainable work focus
Who said work bags need to classic? Thanks to Elvis & Kresse give us a great new way to carry our laptops around town. The team were recent guests at the Wimbledon tennis championships, in the Royal Box, to recognise those businesses who focus on the environment. This brand has been recycling London Fire Brigade hoses for a while and since 2017 working with Burberry to recycle their leather off-cuts. This Compact Briefcase is in a dusty pink, available for £290.
Vegan style
A PETA award winner, Melie Bianco is a brand from the west coast of the US and bring us accessories with a purpose. What does this mean? Think animal friendly, cruelty free, fair trade principles that include sweat shop free manufacture. This bag is the Kayla crossbody bag and it is in the summer sale, once $109 but now $88.
Live hands free
From Montreal in East Canada, Matt and Nat have been bringing us accessories free of leather since 1995, using a variety of recycled materials and have used over 9 million plastic bottles. Their bags are available all over the globe and the Brave Backpack can fit a 13″ laptop. It is featured in two collections, Loom and Purity, and prices range from C$120 to 160.
Can do Canadians
And to another vegan and sustainable designer from Canada, last in this eco edit but by no means least, Pixie Mood brings us a bag for everyday of the week; for shopping and work, the Alicia Tote. And at the moment, the brand has their summer sale on which means you can grab this beautifully designed tote in a dusty pink colour for C$66.
