What has the start of this year served up in the fashion feeds on Instagram? Has your feed been full of designers getting ready for the new Chinese lunar year? As we’ve stepped into February, Happy Chinese New Year or Gong Xi Fa Cai/Kung Hei Fat Choi for those of you who speak Mandarin and Cantonese. Be warned, this round-up of the bag fashion from the ‘gram spotlights the bags that are free of tiger embellishments. Whilst it was tough to ignore the eyes of the tigers, I still hope you like the edit. If you’re sitting or standing comfortably, my something for the weekend is a quick two minutes’ scroll of the bags rocking some of this year’s spring/summer trends.
It’s a revival
Gucci isn’t the only brand this year that has looked back for inspiration and reimagined one of its bags from a classic collection. However, their Bamboo 1947 bag refresh has made it into this month’s edit. Whilst the bag does come in a GG logo print version, the one colour version is my preferred choice. This top handle shoulder bag has a whole new fabulous and fresh colour palette to choose from.

Celebrity status
Whilst this bag isn’t quite the Pantone colour of the year (very peri), the lilac Gaia bag (small size shown here) is a beauty for those special occasions in spring and summer. The bag from OneSixOne has been spotted in the hands of Priyanka Chopra (albeit in white and probably before her hands became full recently with her baby, congrats). A top handle shoulder bag is a key bag style this year and the clean lines is spot on!

Be my Valentine
With under two weeks to go to the day we are reminded to show our love, why not take a note from Vivienne Westwood and show some vegan love to yourself, can I get an Amen up in here (why thank you Ru)! A visit to the VW feed and you’ll also spot Adele in scarlet red satin. If you want a colourful bag this year, opt for the red – there are lots of red hot bags about.

A masterpiece
This is no ordinary top handle bag. The brown hue is jasper-brown calfskin. Yes, it has the detachable shoulder strap but there’s detail on the clasp closure, an orchid calcite gemstone no less! This is a forever bag and the Gabo Guzzo feed showcases the lovely colours in which it’s available. Pause to fully appreciate the architecture of this beauty.

Ah, Grasshopper!
A quilted bag isn’t just for the winter. Check out Hozen Collection who specialise in vegan leather products. This mini Duffle bag is made from upcycled, recycled, and biodegradable materials which are ethically crafted at a fair-wage factory in Los Angeles – nice one west coast! This is the grasshopper mini bag. Try a bit of neon in your wardrobe – it was spotted on a few SS’22 runways.

It just leaves me to say I hope you enjoyed the first month’s inspiration of bag fashion for 2022. And if you’re celebrating the Chinese new year, here’s wishing you prosperity and good fortune too!
