The best bags you can buy under £1000 and on trend for winter ’17

If you haven’t been tempted yet by my best handbag buys for under £100, £300 and £500, open your wallet a bit wider and welcome the handbags under £1000 edit.

The list is rich in heavy weight designers; influenced by the 8 key winter fashion trends and is limited to 10 in number.  I’ve saved you from a more extensive list – well there’s only so much time to scroll.  Thinking of you mobile viewers, catching up on the go.

To help you navigate the list, I’ve grouped the 10 bags according to when you might want to carry this lovely collection of arm candy; to work, at the weekends, for a stylish event by day or at an evening bash.  So without further ado…

For those corporate days

Mulberry Freya small shoulder bag

The small Freya shoulder bag from Mulberry at House of Fraser for £795.  Available in taupe, black or oxblood.  I think the taupe is a welcome change to winter’s default black. The small is preferred as it comes with a long strap to where crossbody.  I’ve tested it with all the essentials; purse, phone, make up bag, perfume, pen, hairbrush, umbrella and a packet of tissues were thrown in just to make sure the small was up to the day’s challenge.

Sophie Hulme Albion totebag medium size

This medium sized tote bag is the Albion from Sophie Hulme at Liberty of London for £550.  With the additional metal finish, this bag is ideal to pair with a tailored suit.  It does come in two colours; the tan is ideal for the weekend away, not the corporate days.

At the weekend

Valentino Rockstud spike leather crossbody bag

This crossbody bag is the Rockstud Spike from Valentino at Harvey Nichols for £995. This bag brings to the table two of the winter trends; red and metal.  This winter wear red head to toe!

YSL monogram quilted Lou Lou bag from Saint Laurent

The crossbody bag Lou Lou from Saint Laurent at Selfridges for £730.  Quilting is big this season – the trend is one of the key coat styles this winter.  This YSL bag is available in four colours; the blush would be an ideal bag to wear for winter evenings around a ski resort.  Anyone for apres?

Michino Sibylle suede shoulder bag

The red suede shoulder bag Sibylle from Michino is at Liberty of London for £835.  Red is a key colour for this winter and the suede makes this a great casual option for daytime weekend style.   This pillar box red will accent any outfit and make a statement.  Red alert!

Manu Atelier striped shoulder strap handbag

A modern take on the 1970’s casual vibe is this striped shoulder strap handbag from Manu Atelier at Farfetch for £537.  This bag, whilst nods to the past, is bang up to date with its box style.  It’s ok to be square!

For a stylish day out

Eddie Borgo shoulder bag

This is the Pepper leather bag from Eddie Borgo at Net-A-Porter for £900.  Black is the go to colour in winter.  However, this season there is the strong accent of metallics; seen via studs, metal finishes.  Eddie Borgo gives us a sleek handle for handbag holding or chrome chain to wear over the shoulder.  Stand out from the crowd of black bags.

 

Miu Miu Lady shoulder bag

Miu Miu Lady shoulder bag at Net-A-Porter for £950 is a combination of smooth and textured leather.  The embellishment adds that silver shine which is a trend that is running through the clutch bags.  Add the detachable strap when on the move – dance floor anyone?

For an evening of glamour

Dries Van Noten designer handbag of brocade and leather

The 1970’s is having a revival this winter and the mix of brocade and leather in this shoulder bag from Dries Van Noten at Selfridges is £935.  This bag hits all the right notes with the orange-red, silver-grey accents,off set with the black leather trim.  Let the inner tiger out!Esin Akan city clutch and crossbody bag

In lizard colour this is a clutch and crossbody bag from Esin Akan at Harvey Nichols for £945.  Fresh from exhibiting at London Fashion Week, Esin Akan is based in London and gives us the metallic look in a bag that can be carried as a clutch or worn as a shoulder or crossbody bag. Shine on!
