Prepping for wedding season and need a bag or two!

‘Tis the season to brace oneself for the upcoming weddings on the horizon and the mandatory hit the bank balance will get. I’ve sourced three outfits which I’m going to invest in not just because they work for the special events but they also guarantee lots of wear elsewhere. Thankfully the weddings have a relaxed but elegant vibe where anything starting from boho chic is acceptable. However, wedding season economics means I need to see if I can get through the summer and make these three outfits work with one bag. Challenge on!

Pretty in pink right now

Up here in the northern hemisphere, I’m seeing more and more pink appearing in the stores for this spring and summer. The good news, is you don’t need to channel your inner Naomi Campell as seen at the Versace S’22 runway show, looking fabulous in a pink trouser suit, to channel your inner fashionista. This much pink up top and below the waistline may not be the preferred choice for everyone. The alternative is to grab a pink bag and still look pretty and on-trend this year. Here’s a quick edit from some cities in Europe where there’s lots of pink bag inspiration for you, with lots more over on insta @thebagwhispers_.

Last bit of prep…the party bag!

It’s the time of year when a very specific bag size and shape is required. Not too big yet not too small. With or without a strap – depending on how much dancing with your hands in the air! Yes, it’s time to dust off the small but mighty bag, that’s got a bit of sparkle or colour pop. Slim and trim to hold the phone, lippy💋, bank cards and keys. Something for the weekend brings you a party bag edit to inspire for the holiday season, be it Christmas or New Year.

AW’21 bag trends – the shortlist

It was another digital fashion launch, the AW’21 runways were virtual. And with the lockdowns the impact on creativity could have left us with many reinterpretations of Bridgerton’s Regency romantic outfits, which seemed to be the only fashion being talked about at the start of 2021! However, the designers in New York, Milan, London and Paris treated us to textures galore, from chunky knits a la Chloé, to figure hugging sheer dresses and body suits, thank you Tom Ford! But what about the bags?

The best birthday gift bag!

And I don’t mean the paper ones with ribbon handles used as alternative wrapping or an elegant way to transport a gift. I’m talking about being confident enough to buy a friend or loved on a new bag all wrapped up as the gift! I’ve heard people shy away from buying someone a bag, with style and shape being so personal or being overwhelmed by the fashion trends of the season. One solution is to wrap up one of the classic designer bag icons. However, if the budget doesn’t allow or isn’t appropriate, here are six bags that just never go out of style, that won’t break the bank and will be coveted by other friends!

Pretty in pastels on insta this month.

It’s not a surprise for fashion in pastels to appear in spring/summer. Last year we saw the resurgence of lilac accessories. Good news, this year, any hue of pastel will be on trend, as long as you co-ordinate with your outfit. And just like Max Mara who showed the leather bag in their SS21 fashion show, pretty does not mean small and discreet – this year any shape will go. Here are my five favourite pastel bags spotted on insta this month. Enjoy the inspiration from April.

Bags of colour for SS’21

This spring and summer welcomes new shades of colour. And the good news doesn’t stop there. There isn’t a dominant colour for the season; there’s a colour for every skin tone (much appreciated from the fair skinned amongst us). The only trend to remember is to match your accessories to your outfit – spring and summer is all about toning. So if you love wearing colour, your bag should rock the hue too. Here are over 10 budget and designer bags of colour that are guaranteed to pop!

High street hits at the start of 2021

Fashion has long been accepting of incorporating high street labels into your season’s wardrobe and bags are no exception. And, the start of the year is often a time when we set ourselves goals, one of which might be to spend less or to save more. The good news is the high street labels, once terrible for good looking and quality bags (zips to tear your skin off, if you’re not careful) are now a delight for on trend bag fashion. So with the spring and summer 2021 fashion trends in mind, here’s my top 10 of high street hits for bag fashion.

Shout out to the small bag businesses

With tough times ahead and many of the European countries back in lockdown, here’s a shout out to the small bag businesses. A few years ago I reviewed Etsy as a destination for the small or emerging bag designers. So I’ve returned to see what’s available and wasn’t disappointed. Here are 5 bag designers and sellers who have bags that have caught my eye. So if you’re sitting comfortably, let’s take a whistle stop virtual tour!
