Armchair guide to women’s fashion trends of 2021

With the clue in the title, I’m hoping you’re sitting comfortably. Here’s a whistle stop tour of a selection of the SS’21 fashion shows. Whilst there are 6 key fashion trends for SS’21, there’s really only ONE fashion bag trend. The good news is you can get away with a bag in any shape or form; the trend is to make it compliment your outfit. This is the year of dropping the accents and ensure your outfit and bag are in pure harmony. How do you do this? Easy! Take a look at these designers for inspiration.

Go large!

And refreshingly your bag doesn’t have to be a classic tote bag. Love the options here from Dolce and Gabbana, Max Mara and Valentino. Who said a structured shoulder bag can’t be big – no one in 2021!

I see you!

Think mesh and laser cutting to give that hint of what lies beneath! All the big names are at it, from Burberry, Fendi and Tom Ford.

A pastel punch

From any part of the colour spectrum, here’s how to opt for the softer hues. We have a lilac, a yellow and a blush thanks to Private Policy, Balmain and Gabriela Hearst, respectively, but the runways were full of pinks and blues too spotted at Max Mara and Versace

To embellish

From drawstrings to fringes with studs and tassels in between. Valentino, Dior and Chloe were all giving us something extra to the tonal matching.

When you get to thinking about what to carry this spring and summer, fear not. You really can opt for any shape or size, different colour palettes and embellishments. There’s only one thing to remember, match your bag of any shape or style with the colour tones of your outfit. Leave the accenting to another season. Go forth and match to your heart’s content!
